The bible list the defeated Kings......................
The goal is to see God.
My thoughts---There was no way Joshua and the Israelite's could defeat all of those kings and there armies. But God said I will give them into your hands. What did God actually do? The bible says at times he confused them. He caused to think in certain ways but at the end of the chapter we learn that with God all things are possible. Joshua has entered into the promised land. He has conquered and defeated those inhabiting the land.

CHAPTER 12

These are the kings of the land whom the Israelites had defeated and whose territory they took over east of the Jordan, from Arnon Gorge to Mount Hermon, including all the eastern side of the Arabah:

Sihon King of the Amorites
who resigned in Hesbon.

He ruled from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Gorge--from the middle of the groge--to the Jabbok River which is the border of the Ammonites. This included half of Gilead. He also ruled over the eastern Arabah from the sea of Galilee to the sea of the Arabah (that is, the dead sea) to beth Jeshimoth, and then southward below the slopes of Pisgah.

And the territor of Og king of Bashan, one of the last of the Rephaites, who reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei. He ruled over Mount Hermon, Salekah, all of Bashan to the border of the people of Geshur and Maakah, and half of Gilead to the border of Sihon King of Hesbon.

Moses, the servant of the Lord, and the Isrealites conquered them. And Moses the servant of the Lord gave their land to the Reubenites, the Gadites and  the half tribe of Manasseh to be their possession.

Here is a list of the kings of the land that Joshua and the Israelites conquered on teh west side of the Jordan, form Baal Gad in the Valley of Lebanon to the Munt Halak, which rises toward Seir. Joshua gave their lands as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel according to their tribal divisions. The lands included the hill country, the western foothills, the Arabah, the mountain slopes, the wilderness and the Negev. These were teh lands of the Hitties, Amorites, Cananites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. These were the kings

  • the king of Tizah
A total of thirty one kings.

As I read through the list. I see a lot of kings and kingdoms. The significance for me is God is all powerful. I also think that there was no way Joshua could have defeated all of these kings alone. Naturally we think what a strong man but I believe the bible desires for us to say, surely God was with him. God gave him the victory. If God was not in the picture the outcome may have been different. For example God promised the land; he went with them through the water, the fire, and the wars. He was in battle with them from the beginning of the journey. This victory is saying with God all things are possible. When we see a victorious person we want to glory in the person but I think the list is for us to give God the glory.

The Lord keeps his promises.
 The Lord is faithful.
The Lord is with me.
God is fighting for me.
If God be for me who can be against me.
I am victorious because God says that i am.
I overcome the enemy.
I am more than a conqueror.
Surely Joshua felt awesome.
