PSALMS 19
Amplified Bible
[--] included in bible verses.
To the Chief Musician, A Psalm of David.
1. THE HEAVENS declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows and proclaims his handiwork. [Rom. 1:20, 21].
2. Day after day pours forth speech, and night after night shows forth knowledge.
3. There is no speech nor spoken word [from the stars]; their voice is not heard.
4. Yet their voice [in evidence] goes out through all the earth, their sayings to the end of the world. Of the heavens has God made a tent for the sun. [Rom. 10:18].
5. Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and it rejoices as a strong man to run his course.
6. Its going forth is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the ends of it; and nothing [yes, no one] is hidden from the heat of it.
7. The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the [whole] person; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8. The precepts of the Lord is right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure and bright, enlightening to the eyes.
9. The [reverent] fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10. More to be desired are they than gold, even than much fine gold; they are sweeter also than honey and drippings from the honeycomb.
11. Moreover, by them is your servant warned (reminded, illuminated, and instructed); and in keeping them there is great reward.
12. Who can discern his lapses and errors? Clear me from hidden [and unconscious] faults.
13. Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins, and let them not have dominion over me! Then shall I be blameless, And I shall be innocent and clear of great transgression.
14. Let the words of my mouth and the mediation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my [firm impenetrable] Rock and Redeemer.
(Something to consider)
Why Laws?
Of course this is the old testament and God writes his laws upon the heart. Today they are still with us.
1. David calls God's Law perfect. A perfect thing exist!
We say nothings perfect but God's Law is perfect.
2. The Law restores the whole person (brings healing to the body) Restoration is beautiful. (Makes me think about a person going in the wrong direction but at some point they discover a new direction. That person is now going to a better place or everything out of place is being place in its proper place.
3. It instructs.
4. It makes the simple wise.
5. His precepts are right. We tend to say no one is right all the time. According to the passage God's precepts are right all the time.
6. His precepts bring Joy to the heart (How many times have you heard someone voice how hard it is to do right; but when we do right it feels so good. Doing it brings joy and happiness.
7. His ordinances are more valuable than Gold. They are sweeter than sweet honey on the honey comb.
8. David calls the fear of the Lord clean.
9.He says the fear of the Lord will endure forever.
10. God's word instructs, warns, and helps us.
God's Precepts
a commandment or direction given as a rule of action or conduct.
an injunction as to moral conduct;
God Ordinances
something believed to have been ordained, as by a deity or destiny.
an established rite or ceremony.
a sacrament.
Fear of the Lord
To have reverential awe of something.
If you keep them there is a GREAT reward!
They are beneficial. They all come from God himself. God tells us what is perfect; what is right; and what is acceptable in his sight.
1. You don't have to do them.
2. You don't have to accept them.
3. But I believe the person that does them will be happy, blessed, and envied. I think people who follow (self) are not happy people.
Commentary Notes:
We desire it (to be free from faults) and God makes it happen.
"Let the words of my mouth and the mediation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight."
