Prayer for Protection against Oppressors.
A Prayer of David.
17 Hear the just (righteous) cause, O Lord; listen to my loud [piercing] cry;
Listen to my prayer, that comes from guileless lips.
2
Let my verdict of vindication come from Your presence;
May Your eyes look with equity and behold things that are just.
3
You have tried my heart;
You have visited me in the night;
You have tested me and You find nothing [evil in me];
I intend that my mouth will not transgress.
4
Concerning the deeds of men, by the word of Your lips
I have kept away from the paths of the violent.
5
My steps have held closely to Your paths;
My feet have not staggered.
Listen to my prayer, that comes from guileless lips.

I have kept away from the paths of the violent.
5
My steps have held closely to Your paths;
My feet have not staggered.
6
I have called upon You, for You, O God, will answer me;
Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech.
7
Wondrously show Your [marvelous and amazing] lovingkindness,
O Savior of those who take refuge at Your right hand
From those who rise up against them.
8
Keep me [in Your affectionate care, protect me] as the [a]apple of Your eye;
Hide me in the [protective] shadow of Your wings
9
From the wicked who despoil and deal violently with me,
My deadly enemies who surround me.
10
They have closed their [b]unfeeling heart [to kindness and compassion];
With their mouths they speak proudly and make presumptuous claims.
11
They track us down and have now surrounded us in our steps;
They set their eyes to force us to the ground,
12
He is like a lion eager to tear [his prey],
And like a young lion lurking in hiding places.
I have called upon You, for You, O God, will answer me;
Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech.

Wondrously show Your [marvelous and amazing] lovingkindness,
O Savior of those who take refuge at Your right hand

11
They track us down and have now surrounded us in our steps;
They set their eyes to force us to the ground,
12
He is like a lion eager to tear [his prey],
And like a young lion lurking in hiding places.
13
Arise, O Lord, confront him, cast him down;
Save my soul from the wicked with Your sword,
14
From men with Your hand, O Lord,
From men of the world [these moths of the night] whose portion [of enjoyment] is in this life—idle and vain,
And whose belly You fill with Your treasure;
They are satisfied with children,
And they leave what they have left [of wealth] to their children.
15
As for me, I shall see Your face in righteousness;
I will be [fully] satisfied when I awake [to find myself] seeing Your likeness.
Jesus said let us pray after this manner (see if you see similarities)
Our Father
Who art in heaven
Hallowed be thou name
Thy Kingdom come
Thy will be done
On Earth
As it is in heaven
Give us this day
Our daily bread
Forgive us our debts
As we forgive our debtors
lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil ( WE ALL NEED DELIVERANCE)
For thine is the Kingdom
And the power
And the glory
Forever
And ever
amen
SIMILARITIES
1. Both prayers contain GODS WILL
2. Both prayers acknowledge the true and living GOD there is no mistake to whom the prayer is being offered to.
3. An opening and closing (Father hear me/or Our Father) Jesus says Our Father as in yours and mine.
4. Gods will (what is his will) (What does he want) (this is what we are praying for) (this is what he hears and answers to) (he does not answer to iniquity and wickedness it is offensive) David spends lots of time establishing what is righteousness there so the desires are right. (the heart is the key) before the mouth is open the heart is moved.
5. As it is in heaven so let it be done on the earth (this tells us things are not always right) (demons and devils is at work but God has Angels and fire to aid us. But we must want God's will. He wants it done on earth.)
6. OF COURSE WE ARE PRAYING BECAUSE HIS WILL IS NOT BEING DONE
WE ARE ASKING FOR HIS WILL.
we pray for protection
We pray for direction
we pray for our daily bread
(His will concerning these things)
Differences
1. David declares his righteous status to God
2. Today we prayer in the name of Jesus (his righteous status)
3. David goes into details; he wants specific things pertaining to his circumstances.
4. The Lords prayer is general while David's is detail

INQUIRE
Instead of assuming ask God?
Instead of thinking without knowledge ask God?
Do not rest in the knowledge of good and evil but ask of God about people, places, and things.
We cannot go wrong.
1. forgive your enemies he never tells us to hurt people good or bad, he says bless and do not curse, we can not be confused between our flesh and real righteousness.
PRAYER
nouna devout petition to God or an object of worship.
a spiritual communion with God or an object of worship, as in supplication, thanksgiving, adoration, or confession.
the act or practice of praying to God or an object of worship.
a formula or sequence of words used in or appointed for praying:
the Lord's Prayer.
prayers, a religious observance, either public or private, consisting wholly or mainly of prayer.
that which is prayed for.
Prayer is a requirement of God.
He answers petitions but he has a format (pattern) its simple and available to all.
What is prayer to the character?
It is humility
It is paying homage
It is an acknowledgement of the wisdom and power of the one and only true living God.
Prayer is all through the old testament.
Nothing happens unless a man or woman prays.
Those Great men we admired prayed.
Learn how to pray; But first we must be righteous.
(Lord who shall dwell on your holy hill?)
Psalms 14.
How do you know if you are the righteousness of God?
(By Faith)
But without Righteousness how can we pray?
What is Righteousness?
It is what is right according to God!
It is his will.
No harm intended but just a thought, we know how righteous we are based on our prayers.
I have prayed amiss (wrongly) too. But today let us pray the Fathers will but first we have to desire it in your heart.
What about the mind?
The mind of the flesh minds the things of the flesh
The mind of the spirit minds the things of the spirit
In the flesh we cannot please God but when we become one mind with him we can pray and we can petition as God desires.
I am not saying only certain people can pray but I am saying let us get dressed up to go see the King. Make yourself a ready vessel (the bible refers to the church as a bride) its just feminine to reference the order. The bride is going to petition the King. He is the head, the leader, the big person at the right hand of the Father.
Because no man goes to the Father except through the son, and the son is the Master and Lord of the soul granting us a righteous status.
I have to put on mine too
(without spot or wrinkle).
I have to wash it, iron it, and dry it then I can adorn myself and go to the king and then I know, I don't think, I Know he hears me. He sees me. We can believe that we will have what we pray for.
A righteous foundation supports faith. Its hard to believe God will do it when you are not right. When you are right. Its done, it is so.
We are on the earth among filth but the Father is in heaven.
He will regard my heart and if he sees iniquity in it he will not hear me. Secondly David confessed his righteous status to God and he had access to God.
All the power,
All the glory,
David teaches us that righteousness finds God.
