May 22, 2020, Psalms 72, John 3
NIV commentary reveals that Psalms 72 was more likely written during the Kings coronation. It is noted in the Psalms that the King expresses to rule over the people with Justice. This is his prayer for his reign. It is one of Solomon's and it is either written by him or for him. Some called it the Kings prayer.
In the Old testament we know exactly when David was crowned but in the Psalms it not noted. But in Psalms 72 there is a change in the writing .
Psalms 72
Of Solomon.
Endow the King with your justice, O God,
the royal son with your righteousness.
May he judge your people in righteousness,
your afflicted ones with justice.
May the mountains bring prosperity to the people,
the hills the fruit of righteousness.
May he defend the afflicted among the people,
and save the children of the needy, may he crush
the oppressor. May he endure as long as the sun,
as long as the moon, through all generations.
May he be like rain falling on a mown field,
like showers watering the earth.
In his days may the righteousness flourish
and prosperity abound till the noon is no more.
May he rule from sea to sea, and from River to
the ends of the earth.
May the desert tribes bow before him and his enemies
lick the dust.
May the kings of Tarnish and of distant shores bring
tribute to him. May the kings of Sheba and
Seba present him gifts.
May all kings bow down to him
and all nations serve him.
For he will deliver the needy who cry out,
the afflicted who have no one to help,
He will take pity on the weak and the needy
and save the needy from death.
He will rescue them from oppression and
violence, for precious is their blood in his sight.
Long may he live!
May gold from Sheba be given him.
May people every pray to him,
and bless him all day long.
May grain abound throughout the land;
on the tops of the hills may it sway.
May the crops flourish like Lebanon
and thrive like the grass of the field.
May his name endure forever; may it continue
as long as the sun.
Then all nations will be blessed through him,
and they will call him blessed.
Praise be to the Lord God, the God of Israel,
who alone does marvelous deeds.
Praise be to his glorious name forever;
may the whole earth be filled with his glory,
Amen, and amen.
We know that a King has a kingdom and authority, so as God's earthly regent, the king possesses royal authority that extends on earth as far as God's ----how is it possible? it is an expectation that is fulfilled through Christ.
Forwarding to today, Jesus is our King. He has a kingdom and the promise to Abraham has been fulfilled. The King delegates authority to his servants. The best word to use is servant but he calls them friends.
The word (nations) indicates that the original promise to Abraham suggest that it will be fulfilled through the royal son of David--ultimately the Messiah. We are living in this time. Jesus reign extends to all nations, no one excluded.
Do you think the enemy fought hard against David with the hopes of the promise not being fulfilled?
But God already knew what would happen and remember David was anointed and chosen by God long before he became King. God knows how to pick em. Saul was the peoples choice but David was God's choice. God knows more than us. We all know what David went through could you image Saul going through that. He probably could not handle it.
John 3
Jesus Teaches Nicodemus
Now there was a Pharisee, a man named Nicodemus who was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him.
Jesus replied, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the Kingdom of God unless they are born again.
How can someone be born when they are old? Nicodemus asked. "Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother's womb to be born!
Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no on can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to the spirit. You should not be surprise at my sayin, you must be born again. The wind blows whenever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.
How can this be? Nicodemus asked. "You are Israel's teacher, said Jesus, and you do not understand these things? Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak heavenly things? No one has ever gone into heaven-except the one who came from heaven-the son of man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but who ever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: light has come into the world, but people love darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that if may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

The Pharisee Nicodemus
(A teacher of Israel)
- Matthew, Mark, Luke perspectives have Pharisees who are unteachable.
- At times they become hostile.
- Their public interactions with Jesus Christ is for the purpose of catching him doing wrong.
- Often times they challenged him.
- They ask for a sign from heaven.
- Nicodemus is faithful to the religious sect but he has questions.
- Nicodemus probably does now want the others to know that he is visiting Jesus.
- His night time visit is discreet.
- But he inquires of the Lord and he wants to know about the kingdom and being born again.
