June 07, 2020 Psalms 88, John 8 Continued
Psalms 88
A Psalm of the sons of Korah.
For the director of music.
According to mahalath leannoth.
A maskil of Heman of Ezrahite.
Lord you are God who saves me;
day and night I cry out to you.
May my prayer come before you;
turn your ear to hear my cry.
I am overwhelmed with troubles
and my life draws near death.
I am counted among those who go
down to the pit.
I am like one without strength.
I am set apart with the dead,
like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom you remember no more,
who are cut off from your care.
You have put me in the lowest pit,
in the darkest depths.
Your wrath lies heavenly on me;
you have overwhelmed me with all your waves.
You have taken from me my closest friends
and have made me repulsive to them.
I am confined and cannot escape
my eyes are dim with grief.
I call to you, Lord, everyday,
I spread out my hands to you,
Do you show your wonders to the dead?
Do their spirits rise up and praise you?
Is your love declared in the grave,
your faithfulness in Destruction?
Are your wonders known in the place of
darkness,
or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion?
But I cry to you for help, Lord;
in the morning my prayer comes before you.
Why, Lord do you reject me?
and hide you face from me?
From my youth I have suffered and been
close to death.
I have borne your terrors and am in despair
Your wrath has swept over me.
All day long they surround me like a flood.
All day long they surround me like a flood.
They have completely engulfed me.
You have taken from me friend and neighbor--
darkness is my closest friend.
Jesus Claims about Himself
John 8
The Jews answered him, "Aren't we right in saying that you are a Samaritan and demon-possessed?
"I am not possessed by a demon, said Jesus, "but I honor my Father and you dishonor me. I am not seeking glory for myself, but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge. Very truly I tell you, whoever obeys my word will never see death.
At this they exclaimed, "Now we know that you are demon-possessed! Abraham died and so did the prophets, yet you say that whoever obeys your word will never taste death. Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?
Jesus replied, "If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me. Though you do not know him, I know him. If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and obey his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.
You are not yet fifty years, they said to him, and you have seen Abraham!
Very truly I tell you, Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am! At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.
What a conversation!👀
Have a great day!
