Happy Sunday

Proverbs 16 cont....

When a king's face brightens, it means life,

his favor is like a rain cloud in spring.

How much better to get wisdom than gold,

to get insight rather than silver.

The highway of the upright avoids evil;

those who guard their ways preserve their lives.

Pride goes before destruction,

a haughty spirit before a fall.

Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed

than to share plunder with the proud.

Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers,

and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.

The wise in hear are called discerning,

and gracious words promote instruction.

Prudence is a fountain of life to the prudent,

but folly brings punishment to fools.

The hearts of the wise make their  mouths prudent,

and their lips promote instruction.

Gracious word are a honeycomb,

sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

There is a way that appears to be right,

but in the end it leads to death.

The appetite of laborers works for them;

their hunger drives them on.

A scoundrel plots evil,

and on their lips it is like a scorching fire.

A perverse  person stirs up conflict,

and a gossip separates close friends.

A violent person entices their neighbor and leads them down a path that is not good.

Whoever winks with the eye is plotting perversity;

whoever purses their lips is bent on evil.

Gray hair is a crown of splendor,

it is attained in the way of righteousness.

Better a patient person than a warrior,

one with self-control than one who takes a city.

The lot is cast into the lap,

but its every decision is from the Lord.

  1. If we were born with wisdom there would not be need to learn and listen to wisdom; but proverbs says wisdom calls out to us. She invites us to dinner. She is always ready to teach.
wisdom is an element of personal character that enables one to distinguish between what is wise and what is unwise.
It is important to know what is wise because it leads to life while what is unwise has unwise consequences.

 Understanding is different and it is mental, it is also sometimes called an emotional process of comprehension, or an assimilation of knowledge,

The fool. The fool has character traits too. A fool is often used in proverbs to describe one who acts contrary to sound wisdom in his moral character; it is one who follows his own inclinations, who prefers trifling and temporary pleasures instead of the service of God and eternal happiness.

Writers create characters all the time; but if you were creating a character what traits or qualities would you want them to have. Of course the good characters would have the best qualities. Wisdom is love and she desires for everyone to have good qualities. She is persistent in her teaching. She is blunt and she does is direct.

To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are His. ~ Job 12:13.

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. ~ Psalm 90:12.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. ~ Proverbs 1:7.

For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
