 Isaiah Chapter 2

God looks at the Nation

God noted the deeds of the Kings and so on. He has not rejected anyone and he opens his arms of acceptance through an invitation. Whomever is willing can come to his high mountain and discover righteousness and light; those who refuse and continue to rebel stumbles upon what Isaiah calls the day of the Lord.

The issues at hand are:

Murder

The neglect of the Widows

The Fatherless not being defended.

He also addresses attitudes of pride and haughtiness.

We have natural laws against oppression and murder as well as laws that are designed to protect the rights of all people. If a natural man can be inspired and write laws according to what he judges to be right how much more should we respect God and his feelings against those who engage in activities such as murder, oppression, and wickedness.

The Day of the Lord

You, Lord, have abandoned your people, the descendants of Jacob.

They are full of superstitions from the East; they practice divination

like the Philistines and embrace pagan customs.Their land is full of

silver and gold; there is no end to their treasures.

Their land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots.

Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands,

to what their fingers have made. So the people will be brought low

and everyone humbled---do not forgive them.

Go into the rocks, hide in the ground from the fearful presence of the

Lord and the splendor of his majesty!

 God dislikes

  1. Human pride (an attempt to be our own god)
  2. being proud and lofty
  3. the arrogance in man
  4. trusting in humans
  5. Esteeming humans instead of God
The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled and human pride brought low; the Lord alone will be exalted in that day. The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty, and all the oaks of Bashan, for all the towering mountains and all the high hills, for every lofty tower and every fortified wall, for every trading ship and every stately vessel.

The day of the lord refers to a day of judgement/or sometimes blessings.

The writers prose reminds me of the psalms.
It is filled with passion and their is a distinction between right and wrong. There is a distinction in how God will treat those who have remain true and those who have rebelled or taken another path.

Isaiah uses poetry,  personification, and sarcasm.

Chapter 3 10-18

"Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds.

Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them! They will be paid back for what their hands have done.

God takes his people to court and brings charges against them.
GOD THE RIGHTEOUS JUDGE
CH 3  13-17

The Lord takes his place in court; he rises to judge the people. The Lord enters into judgement against the elders and leaders of his people:

It is you who have ruined my vineyard;
the plunder from the poor is in your houses.
What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the faces of the poor?

The Lord says,

the women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, strutting along with swaying hips; with ornaments jingling on their ankles. Therefore the Lord will bring sores on the heads of the women of Zion; the Lord will make their scalps bald.

After this day, (THE DAY OF THE LORD)

THE BRANCH OF THE LORD
Chapter 4 3-7
all the survivors of Israel will be beautiful and glorious.
(those who will stay in Israel)
( These are the righteous people Isaiah comforts in his prophecy because it says they will be called holy and somehow they will survive the day of the Lord. It seems he addresses them all as God's people but some of them are righteous and some are wicked.

Those left in Zion, those who remain in Jerusalem will be called holy, all who are recorded among the living in Jerusalem. The Lord will wash away the filth of the women of Zion; he will cleanse the bloodstains from Jerusalem by a spirit of judgement and a spirit of fire!

Then the Lord will create over all the Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over everything the glory will be a canopy. It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.

Proverbs 22 cont..
Saying 2

Do not exploit the poor because they are poor and
do not crush the needy in court, for the Lord will take up their case and will exact life for life.
