Happy Sunday:

Isaiah has so many features. It includes different writing styles and techniques. It also is filled with prophecy and teachings. Most importantly people may get mad at the messenger but the reality is Isaiah speaks God's words. 

Isaiah Chapter 8 

Isaiah and his children as Signs

The Lord said to me, "Take a large scroll and write on it with an ordinary pen: Maher-Shalah-Hash-Baz. So I called Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberekiah as reliable witnesses for me. Then I made love to the prophetess and she conceived and gave birth to a son. And the Lord said to me, Name him Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz. For before the boy knows how to say My Father or My Mother the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the King of Assyria. 

The boy serves as timeline for the prophecy

what is going to happen?

A child speaks round about 1 to 2 years old; so before this time the wealth of Damascus and plunder of Samaria is going to go with the King of Assyria. 

His name is a mystery

But God says name him Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz (he has to write it on a scroll as well) 

The Lord spoke to me again:

Because this people rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoices over Rezin and son of Remaliah, therefore the Lord is about to bring against them the mighty flood waters of the Euphrates-the King of Assyria with all his pomp.

Within in one year the King of Assyria will have this wealth but God is using him. He says I will bring against them the mighty flood waters of the Euphrates; it is the King of Assyria. 

The names have meanings...

So God is preparing the King of Assyria to take this land because the people rejoiced in Rezin and Remaliah; they put their faith and trust in them so God will give them over to the King of Assyria.

It will overflow all its channels, run over all banks and sweep on on into Judah, 

This situation is going to spill over and affect Judah But God gives them instructions. 

Prophecy against them

Verse 12

Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy;

do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The Lord Almighty  is the one you are to regard as Holy. He is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread. He will be Holy place; for both Israel and Judah he will be a stone that causes people to stumble. 

Prophecy about Jesus: We already have the signs of his coming and now we learn that he is the stone that causes people stumble.

For the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare and captured. Bind up this testimony  of warning and seal up God''s instruction among my disciples. 

I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the descendants of Jacob. I will put my trust in him. 

Here I am, and the children the lord has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the Lord Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.

When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, nad put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. Do not crave delicacies, for that food is deceptive.
