Isaiah 9

The Lord's Anger Against Israel

The Lord has sent a message against Jacob; it will fall on Israel. All people will know it-----Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria----who say with pride and arrogance of heart, "The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stones; the fig trees have been fallen, but we will replace them with cedars, But the Lord has strengthened Rezin's foes against them and has spurred their enemies on. Aramenans from the east and Philistines from the west have devoured Israel with open mouth.

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away,  his hand is still upraised. But the people have not returned to him who struck them, nor have they sought the Lord Almighty,

  • Can something bad become worst? It is possible the people persisted  in keeping things the same. When the building came down they said let's rebuild it. When the fig trees fell they sought its replacement. Because of their desire to keep things like they was God begins to remove the wicked leaders.

So the Lord will cut off from Israel both head and tail, both palm branch and reed in a single day; the elders and dignitaries are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail. Those who guide this people mislead them, and those who are guided are led astray.

Therefore the Lord will take no pleasure in the young men, nor will he pity the fatherless and widows, for everyone is ungodly and wicked, every mouth speaks folly.

Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised. Surely the wickedness burns like a fire, it consumes briers and thorns, it sets the forest thickets ablaze, so that it rolls upward in a column of smoke.

By the wrath of the Lord Almighty the land will be scorched and the people will be fuel for the fire; they will not spare one another. On the right they will devour, but still be hungry; on the left they will eat, but not be satisfied. Each will feed on the flesh of their own offspring. Manasseh will feed on Ephraim, and Ephraim on Manasseh; together they will turn against Judah. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.

His hand upraised is an action. Things have move from go tell the people.... to his right hand is up. It says Yet  his anger away is not turned away. He sought to remove the wicked things they made but they just rebuilt it. Secondly God says he will take away the lying prophet and the wicked leaders who have lead them astray. When this happens wickedness is like fire the people begin to hurt each other.

Does it take all that for things to change? God does not want the people destroyed he wants to rid them of what creates these wicked deeds.

God takes his stand. He has promised them hope and today we enjoy the Messiah. We dont have a man over us for example. In these days the leaders led the people astray. They trusted in lies but to save the people God starts to remove them from wicked leaders. It seems like the goal is will they listen now. Sadly the people had learned how to kill, how to deceive and the leaders taught them how to do it.

It seems God is dealing with the places and people that cause his people to go astray. He deals with the people first everything else second. He does not kill anyone but he desires for the people to remove the wickedness.

When Jesus cursed the fig tree and we feel bad for it but it had been three years and nothing had changed. After you groom it, gave it everything when will it bear good fruit. How long do you wait?
