2 Co 1:11

As you help us by your prayers then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many. 

EPH 6:18

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and request.

There are many different types of prayers.

1Ti 2:1

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live a peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

Benefits of praying for people in authority

1. Their decisions affect our lives; so we should support them in prayer.
2. When we pray for them we will live peacefully. 
3. How can our land be whole if no one prays for them. If things do not change it won't be because  God is unhappy with his people but it will be because those in authority make  poor choices and a lack of prayer. 
4. Pray for kings, women, and men who are in authority positions.
