Happy Tuesday
Monday
They arrived at Mount Sinai
They left Rephidim.
They enter the desert of Sinai.
At this place they set up camp in front of the mountain of God.
God had a message to the people. He promise them he would be with them in a dense cloud because he wanted the people to hear him speak to Moses. He promises them that he would always speak to them through Moses. His words are light and directions and he promises they would always hear him.
God is scheduled to appear at this place.
Before he comes the people are called to consecrate themselves.
This included washing their clothes and refraining from sexual relationships. Lastly they could not approach the mountain of God. Even the priest were not clean enough. Those who lived dedicated lives were to consecrate themselves for God. No one was clean enough. Each one was called to consecrate.
God is about to give The Ten commandments.
Tuesday
The Ten Commandments
- God creates the law at this point
- The law brings fear upon them.
- God wanted them to refrain from sinning.
- There is a physical distance between him and the people.
The ten commandments
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
You shall have no other god's before me.
You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to worship them: for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God.
Punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the 3rd and 4th generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold a anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Remember the Sabath and keep it holy.
Honor thy Father and thy mother. So that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false testimony against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbors house. You shall not covet your neighbors wife, or his manservant or maid servant, his ox, or donkey and anything that belongs to him.
The people saw thunder and lightning and fear came upon them. Moses told them not to fear because God was testing them and God wanted the fear of him to keep them from sinning.
However the people remained at a distance while Moses approached the thick darkness where God was.
God was different than anything they had known in life. The Egyptians had similar values but they believed in more than one God while the Israelites believed in one God.
Have a great day!
